Happy Holidays! Share Your 2014 Edits

We at LifeEdited would like to wish one and all a happy holiday and new year. With a growing readership and the launch of a couple amazing projects this year, we are grateful for all that 2013 has wrought.

In the coming week, we will be having an edited editorial schedule, but we’d love to make a request in the meantime: please share how you plan to edit your life in 2014 in our comments section below. Let’s help each other make the coming year the most concise, enjoyable one yet.

I am going to learn how to rip and then edit movies. My favorite actor is Mads Mikkelsen and he is in supporting roles in quite few films. the films are not very good except for Mads’ performance. Examples are “charlie countryman” or “king arthur”. But if I had a short of only Mads performance I would like it MUCH better. and it would for sure be “edited”.

I love your newsletter. I read most everyone. Good writing, subjects and ideas. A pleasure. Thank You….

Ideally, I’d like to move to a smaller place but here in the SF Bay Area, it would cost me somewhere between $500-1,500 per month more so I’ll be staying in my current home for a while longer.

There are 2 editing projects I can work on.

The first is me, by the end of the year, I’m going to be 20-25 lbs lighter. I’m starting with a juice fast on rebootwithjoe.com

The second is my possessions, I’m going to be reducing them by 50-60%. I’m going to do that by asking 2 questions. Do I love X? Do I truly need X? If the answer is No to both of those questions then off X goes to, hopefully, a new home.

Because I live in a location with four different seasons, I plan to track what I use over the course of a full year and then let all items not used go.

Love this idea, especially since I also live in a four season climate. Call me copy-cat, I don’t mind :-)

I am definitely reducing, recycling, and reusing more – even take the plastic veggie bags back to grocery store for my own use, refuse their take-out plastic bags … cleaning out shelves – selling/giving stuff away … seeking “gifts of giving” … will read “Stuffocation” when available in USA … memories (from experiences) more meaningful than dreams.

As soon as I am home again, after travelling for six week with minimal stuff – heavenly! – I pledge to declutter 20 minutes a day, one room/topic per week, taking off one day/week. At least 30% of what I own goes!

Yes, the questions will be: do I love it? Is it beautiful? do I truly need it?

My place is pretty edited now, at least in the living areas. The basement is another matter. That’s my big project for 2014.

2014 is the year where we finally connect the dots!

    – 2012 we quit our jobs (after years of downsizing/saving/reducing debt) and ran away to drive mexico/central america in our 1967 vw camper

    – 2013 we returned home to embrace community and follow our passions
    – currently we’re renovating our garage into a sub500 sqft “mansion” for us to live in (meaning we can rent the house and go into 2014 rent/mortgage free!!)

2014 now becomes a focus of how to make enough money to keep living (still smaller and simply, but enough to eat, play and travel as we’d like)

For me, it’s about maintaining what I have (or don’t have, so to speak). I have found things tend to creep back in and would love direction on “keeping the edit”, other than the usual 1-thing-in-1-thing-out advice.
