Another Cool Small Space

Sometimes we like to come up with novel things to say about interesting small spaces we feature here. We are after their je ne sais quoi–something this space does better than the rest. Today, we’ll dispense with such flourishes and just admire Ukrainian architect Denis Svirid‘s nicely designed small home.

At 700 sq ft, it’s not super small. It has only one bedroom. The few pieces of furniture in the place don’t transform into anything else. Because it’s inserted into a pretty wonky space–a 1.5 story building with a mansard roof–it’d be tough to replicate with your less-wonky space.

Nonetheless, the space features a number of noteworthy details: a wood-clad interior on the second floor, which is both inviting and durable; a useful office that hides behind a space-expanding mirrored door; and stairs with builtin storage, the bottom of which retracts, making it useful for additional seating. All contribute to make a space that is small, elegant and livable. Nice job.

Update: Lloyd over at Treehugger speculates that this apartment is in fact a rendering. We’ll keep you posted. Either way, it’s pretty lovely.
